Inaugural Cornhole for Hospice Scores $33,500 for Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation
CHATHAM, ON – The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation hosted their first Cornhole for Hospice fundraiser on Saturday, March 2, and raised $33,500 for hospice care in Chatham-Kent.
The event, presented by title sponsor Glenn Seeds Ltd., welcomed players of all abilities to the Everest Convention Centre for a day of friendly competition and fundraising. After round-robin play, 28 teams of two were split into two brackets based on ability and squared off in double-elimination play. Andrew Nelson and Ty Lucio of Floor Baggers took home the trophy and cash prize of $500 for the Best of the Best bracket, while Kristy Nelson and Brandon Dionne of Half Decent won the $250 cash prize in the Best of the Rest bracket.
“We are so grateful for all of the teams who came out to support this first-time event, as well as all of the donors and sponsors who made Cornhole for Hospice such a success,” says Ginny Hawken, Special Events Chair for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “Cornhole is a favourite summer past-time for so many people and bringing it indoors to raise funds for Hospice is a winning combination.”
The event also includes a 50/50 raffle with a jackpot of $3,185, thanks to the Lally Auto Group. Brock Redford, a player at the event, was the lucky winner.
Tournament play was organized by the local cornhole league, CK Dirty Birds, run by Darryl Lucio and Brett Castein. Glenn Seeds Ltd. of Blenheim extended their support for Cornhole for Hospice as the title sponsor and additional sponsor support was provided by Tournament Sponsors Rondeau Capital Inc, Maizex Seeds, and Keystone Farmland Management.
